About Belgium
Belgium is a small but influential country in Western Europe, known for its medieval towns, multicultural society, and role as the political heart of the European Union. It has three official languages—Dutch, French, and German—reflecting its rich regional diversity. Brussels, the capital, hosts major EU institutions and NATO headquarters. Belgium has a strong tradition in art, architecture, and cuisine, especially its world-famous chocolates, waffles, and over 1,000 varieties of beer. Despite its compact size, it has a dense and highly developed infrastructure, with a strong focus on public services, education, and innovation.
Fun fact: Belgium is home to the world’s first recorded casino, which opened in Spa in 1763.
